Looking for an amazing place to visit in Ontario that is a little remote, but bursting with natural beauty and laid-back vibes? Pelee Island is the place for you!
Pelee Island is located in the Canadian province of Ontario in the western half of Lake Erie. At 42 km², Pelee Island is the largest island in Lake Erie and the southernmost populated point in Canada. An Ontario Historical Plaque was erected by the province to commemorate the development of Pelee Island’s role in Ontario’s heritage. Nearby Middle Island is the southernmost point of land in Canada.
Pelee Island’s year-round population is 230, but summer tourism bumps it up to 1500. Pelee Island’s raw beauty and wildlife bring you back to authentic island living. It’s brimming with natural beauty – from rocky shorelines and stunning sunrises and sunsets, to migrating birds and butterflies, snakes, and more. A friendly wave to those passing by is customary.
Enjoy shopping, stopping for a cocktail and dining out at the local eateries, pubs, and shops. And what’s an island without a winery? Pelee Island Winery has over 700 acres of vineyards and is the largest private estate winery in Canada.
